NOWAP stands for NO WIND FARM AT PARHAM

The group was set up in January 2004 by a group of concerned residents opposed to a application by a company called Saxon Windpower Ltd. for six 100m (328ft) wind turbines on a Suffolk farm in
very close proximity to the villages of Great Glemham, Marlesford, and Parham. The site is extremely inappropriate and has stirred up widespread local opposition. NOWAP now has over 450 members.

The formal planning application was submitted in March 2005. We are fighting the application on the grounds that a vulnerable rural location is the wrong location for a large scale industrial development.

It is clear that it will seriously damage the area’s economy and quality of life, and bring no local benefits and no significant global environmental benefits.

NOWAP argues that
onshore windpower is very ineffective in comparison to offshore windpower. If wind belongs anywhere it should be out to sea.

Onshore wind power is randomly intermittent and has been greatly over-rated as a power producer and an emissions saver.

The UK should be concentrating its renewable energy subsidy on technologies that really have something to offer, such as tidal energy, biofuels for transport, and biomass for electricity.

This website provides detailed information concerning the application, and the problems with windpower, including detailed information relating to the experiences in Germany and Denmark, where the onshore wind experiment been tried on a large scale and proved to be a costly failure.
